Snapshots: Champaign County Photography and Photographers, 1851-1913” explores the history of the earliest portrait studios in Champaign County in the 1850s through the birth of and growth of amateur photography at the turn of the century.

The exhibit will feature a robust number of mid to late 19th century portraits from the museum’s collection from different local studios as well as large samples of the works of early 20th-century amateur photographers Frank Sadorus, Frank Rice, and J.J. Fisher.

Along with the history of these local studios and photographers, the exhibit will offer a variety of artifacts related to photography including items from the museum collection and artifacts loaned from the Champaign County Historical Archives and the Urbana Museum of Photography.
